The automatic control of a dry mortar plant is based on one or more controllers – also known as PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) – connected to one or more computers (also known as PCs).

From the very beginning, SOTECMA has used these latest-generation programmable controllers in order to apply the most advanced technologies and the best manufacturers to automated production control.

Automated control also involves what is known as the "Human-Machine Dialogue". This "dialogue" is translated into visual information displayed on industrial screens or computer monitors. Information is shown through animated process diagrams, incident messages, informative data, etc. These devices allow the operation of any point of the plant and the introduction of parameters in a simple and intuitive way.

Plant Processes Controlled by the System

The PLC used in our systems is robust, powerful and compact. Its advanced programming level in instruction processing, which is both very fast and simple, makes it ideal for the reliable control of all processes carried out in a dry mortar manufacturing plant:

• Filling and monitoring of pressures and levels in silos and hoppers.
• Controlled start-up of screw conveyors according to the selected recipe, with the flexibility to choose the desired silo containing the same product.
• Highly accurate use of weighing systems through weighing hoppers or weighing belts, as well as a special weighing system for very light products.
• Pneumatic conveying of these products.
• Monitored mixer start-up according to the built-in safety systems.
• Internal storage and management of recipes, visible and editable from a PC, with or without Password.
• Internal storage of production data over several days, allowing its recording or direct reading on a PC at any time in an Excel spreadsheet.
• Alarm management for display on a PC, in the form of animated symbols and dated, stored text messages.

Connectivity and Communication

The communication between the controller, the PC and other elements is based on Ethernet TCP/IP. The established network facilitates remote connection to both the controller and the PC from another location via the Internet. In locations where ADSL Internet access (copper or fiber optic) is not available but GSM/GPRS mobile coverage exists, an industrial modem is provided to enable this remote access.

In terms of reliability, it greatly exceeds standards related to shock, vibration, temperature, altitude and resistance to electrical disturbances.
