Vibrating Feeders

SOTECMA offers a complete range of vibrating feeders and extraction feeders specifically designed for handling hard minerals and highly abrasive materials.

These industrial vibrating feeders are driven by two electric vibratory motors that generate linear vibration, ensuring a uniform and controlled material flow. The feed rate can be adjusted by modifying the eccentric weights of the vibratory motors and by controlling the motor speed using frequency inverters.

What Is a Vibrating Feeder?

A vibrating feeder is an industrial machine designed to convey materials by means of linear vibration. Its primary function is to extract material from a hopper or storage point and feed it continuously and in a controlled manner to the next stage of the process.

This type of feeder is ideal for regulating the feed rate, preventing material build-up and ensuring the continuous operation of crushers, screens, belt conveyors and other processing equipment. It can handle aggregates, minerals, sand, gravel, industrial raw materials and other bulk solid products.

Features of Vibrating Feeders

The FE range of vibrating feeders is specially designed for secondary and tertiary crushing stages, as well as for handling materials with a maximum particle size of up to 300 mm.

  • Optional wear-resistant steel or polyurethane liners for highly abrasive materials.
  • Available in either supported or suspended configurations, depending on plant requirements.
  • Connection chute between hopper and feeder equipped with a material flow control gate.
  • Feeder inclination adjustment system.
  • Tray widths available from 400 to 1,300 mm.
  • Capacities ranging from 20 to 1,000 t/h.

Types of Industrial Vibrating Feeders

There are different types of vibrating feeders designed to suit the material being handled, the required production capacity and the specific function they perform within each industrial installation.

Vibrating Pan Feeders

Vibrating pan feeders are designed to convey and meter bulk solid materials continuously and uniformly. They provide the ideal solution for feeding belt conveyors, screens, mills, crushers and other processing equipment.

They can be manufactured in a wide range of widths and lengths, with different liner options and configurations depending on the material's abrasiveness, the required throughput and the operating conditions of each installation.

Grizzly Feeders

Grizzly feeders are equipped with heavy-duty grizzly bars that feed a primary crusher while simultaneously removing fine material before it enters the crushing chamber.

This pre-screening system reduces the load on the crusher, improves plant efficiency and prevents material that does not require crushing from unnecessarily entering the crusher. They are widely used ahead of jaw crushers in aggregate plants, mining operations and mineral processing facilities.

Blind Feeders (Without Pre-Screening)

Blind feeders do not incorporate a grizzly section and are designed exclusively to provide a uniform and controlled feed of material.

They are the most suitable option where the material has already been classified or where pre-screening offers no significant improvement to the production process.

Applications in Aggregate Plants, Mining and Industry

Vibrating feeders are widely used across numerous industrial sectors, including aggregate plants, mining operations, cement plants, mineral processing facilities, specialty sand production and bulk material handling systems.

Their most common applications include:

  • Feeding primary crushers.
  • Feeding secondary and tertiary crushers.
  • Metering material to vibrating screens.
  • Pre-screening using Grizzly feeders.
  • Controlled extraction and conveying of material from hoppers.
  • Feeding belt conveyors.
  • Processing highly abrasive minerals.
  • Aggregate and sand production plants.

Selection Criteria for Vibrating Feeders

When used together with vibrating screens, crushers and conveying systems, vibrating feeders help maintain a continuous material flow, improving process consistency and overall plant efficiency.

Selecting the most suitable vibrating feeder requires considering both the characteristics of the material being handled and the production requirements of the plant. Not all feeders operate under the same conditions or require the same configuration.

The main selection criteria are:

  • Required capacity (t/h).
  • Maximum particle size.
  • Material abrasiveness and hardness.
  • Material moisture content.
  • Bulk density.
  • Need for pre-screening.
  • Tray width and length.
  • Liner type.
  • Supported or suspended installation.
  • Equipment to be fed.
  • Required feed rate adjustment.

Where the process requires feeding a primary crusher while removing fine material before crushing, a Grizzly feeder is generally the recommended solution. If the objective is simply to meter previously classified material or feed other process equipment, a vibrating pan feeder is usually the most suitable option.

Grizzly Feeders, Our Specialty

SOTECMA offers a comprehensive range of primary Grizzly feeders specifically designed for aggregate crushing and industrial mineral processing applications.

Features of Grizzly Feeders

Grizzly feeders incorporate one or more heavy-duty grizzly sections that not only meter and extract large rocks but also remove fine material before primary crushing.

They are manufactured or lined with thick wear-resistant steel plates to withstand the most demanding applications involving large, hard and highly abrasive materials.

Their primary application is feeding primary crushers. Thanks to the wide range of available widths, they can be matched to the standard dimensions of jaw crushers. Models are available in widths from 600 to 1,400 mm, allowing the handling of rocks weighing up to 3,000 kg.

They can also be supplied as blind feeders, without a pre-screening grizzly section, allowing all the metered material to be fed directly into the crusher.
